The Everyday: New Paintings at City Space, The Arc Winchester
I’m especially excited to invite you to see some of my new paintings in an exhibition ‘The Everyday’ at City Space, The Arc in Winchester — a vibrant continuation of everything I love, and a true feast for the eyes. Opens 4th June.
I’ve always loved painting food, there’s something so honest and beautiful about capturing fresh, seasonal ingredients in paint. I mainly work in acrylics on canvas and artist panel, using a combination of soft body paints, fluid acrylics and inks to build layers of colour, texture and energy. It’s a wonderfully versatile medium, perfect for transforming simple ingredients into playful, characterful compositions that feel alive.
I’ve worked extensively creating paintings for hotels and restaurants across the UK and internationally, and I especially enjoy working on bespoke commissions, weaving favourite foods and personal details into paintings that tell a story.
The stories behind these paintings
Many of the paintings in this exhibition, ‘The Everyday’ are a nod to my childhood and the memories surrounding food, happy times spent in the kitchen with my mum, where small, simple moments have stayed with me: picking runner beans and pushing them through the bean slicer into lush green strips, arranging radishes on a plate, and noticing the abundance of colour all around me, from the produce on the table to the vibrant dahlias gathered from the garden and placed in a vase. Food has always been part of something bigger for me, a sense of place, connection, and quiet joy.
I’m drawn to local, fresh ingredients, whether it’s earthy beetroot pulled from nearby fields or watching boats come in along the coast with the day’s catch. These food narratives sit alongside glimpses of landscapes and seascapes, reflecting the journey from field to plate. Further afield, discovering specialities like olive oil and cheeses in the Pyrenees brings new palettes of colour, flavour and inspiration.
These experiences shape my colourful, playful still life paintings, each one a celebration of everyday moments, memory and shared food.
Come and see the show — The Everyday opens 4th June at City Space, The Arc, Winchester. I’d love to see you there.
