SKETCHING AS MEMORY-MAKING

Art to help you save memories.

Sketching, regardless of your artistic ability, is a truly magical way to preserve a moment, a place, or a feeling. The act itself is a kind of mindful alchemy: sitting quietly, breathing in the atmosphere, tuning into the sound of the wind, birdsong, or distant chatter. All of it finds its way into the lines and marks you make on paper. It’s not about making a perfect drawing, but about being present fully, intentionally in that space.

Sketching helps preserve memories

A few days ago, my dear friend and I spent a magical afternoon doing just that. It was her beautiful idea to sketch the place where she grew up.

Our merry gang reunited once more at the house for one last hurrah. A place bursting with shared memories of wild childhood escapades, midnight heart-to-hearts, legendary family parties, and spontaneous theatre shows in the garden! With sketchbooks in hand, we let those memories spill out through pencil and ink. It wasn’t just fun it was deeply grounding and full of joy.

I can’t recommend this enough. Whether you’re alone or with a friend, take a moment to sit, observe, and draw. You might be surprised by what you remember, and how deeply it stays with you not just on the page, but in your heart.
